The Punk® Nut
The PunkNut is the first self-aligning and translating leadscrew and ball nut.
The PunkNut allows:
- Accommodation of misalignment and mounting tolerance issues that critically affect reliability and longevity
- Faster installation as it accurately self-aligns
- Accommodation of structural movement and flexing, which prevents screw bending and nut binding
- New uses for linear actuators
The PunkNut accommodates single or double axis misalignment up to +/- 15° without any increase in load or wear on the system.
- A two ring system can be used to accommodate angular misalignment in a single plane.
- A three ring system can be used to accommodate angular misalignment in two planes.
Punk® geometric philosophy is radically different and represents a completely new type of technology to support mechanical power transmission and linear motion. Punk® geometric philosophy can be applied to leadscrew and ball screw nuts in linear actuators as a means of accommodating angular misalignment between the leadscrew or ball screw and carriage rails.
- The inner surface of the inner ring has the lead nut thread or contains a ball screw nut
- The axial load is carried by the spherical surfaces
- The axles react the torque of the leadscrew and nut pt ball screw and nut
- The complete Punk® Nut assembly incorporates simple sliding mechanisms
- The travel required for linear slides is determined as a trigonometric function of the required angle of misalignment and the length of the leadscrew traversed
The Punk® Nut's unique self-aligning capability maximizes a systems:
- Reliability
- Efficiency
- Longevity
- And reduces installation time and costs
